Pandas Nullable Equality Trap

Pandas 2.2 changed the merge _merge indicator dtype, so comparing merged['_merge'] == 'left_only' produces a nullable BooleanArray; indexing or truthiness checks then throw ambiguous-truth ValueErrors and break merge-branch logic.
