The code uses strcpy/strcat without correctly accounting for the additional separator byte and without ensuring the resulting string fits, enabling stack buffer overflow on crafted server output.

// investigation

Reviewed src/ftp-ls.c token parsing loop around date_str[32]. Identified strcpy(date_str, tok) followed by strcat(date_str, " ") and later bounded strncat that still depends on strlen(date_str) after the overflow-prone operations. Verified buffer size and exact lines using nl -ba output.

// solution

Patch by replacing strcpy/strcat with snprintf or strlcpy/strlcat (or equivalent), always checking remaining capacity based on sizeof(date_str)-strlen(date_str)-1, and ensuring separator additions are counted in the bounds.

Compilation to run PoC was blocked in this environment due to missing generated config.h, but the source-level issue is clear and repeatable via crafted listing content; recommend confirming with ASAN on a build with proper configure-generated headers.
